In 2014 Welcome to Yorkshire worked with ASO to organise what Christian Prudhomme described as ‘the grandest’ Grand Départ in Tour de France history. Such was that success that the Tour de Yorkshire was launched as a legacy race 12 months later and has grown to become one of the best supported and most dramatic races in the sport. The 2019 edition saw 1.9 million fans line the route and the action was beamed to a record 29 million people in 190 countries! If that wasn’t enough, last September the county hosted the 2019 UCI Road World Championships, another of the sport’s most historic and prestigious events, held over nine days from 21-29 September.
Of course, Yorkshire is not all about the bike – we’re also home to Yorkshire County Cricket Club, many top football and rugby teams, and nine world-class racecourses. Our county is the perfect place for all outdoor enthusiasts! We have it all: seven vibrant cities, three National Parks, miles of golden beaches, two UNESCO World Heritage sites, exciting contemporary and historical attraction and a full calendar of international events.
