Developed in Cambridge, UK, by an ex Jaguar Landrover engineer, the FLIT-16’s award-winning design makes it one of the standout folding ebikes on the market. Perfect for city journeys, the FLIT-16 is amazing to ride, weighs just 14kg and folds in under 10 seconds.
“We wanted to build a folding ebike that is great to ride, and looks great too”, says Dave Henderson, Technical Lead at FLIT. “With our design being not much more than a pencilled sketch four years ago, it’s amazing to be building the first batch to deliver to our customers in July. We can’t wait for people to ride the production ebikes".
Unlike folding bike models that are adapted to become ebikes, the FLIT-16 has been designed to be electric from the start, meaning fewer compromises. Its custom lithium ion battery fits neatly into the bike’s top tube, maximising frame rigidity, whilst also giving the FLIT-16 its uniquely clean look. Using the latest generation of LG cells, the 252 Wh battery combined with a high torque rear hub motor gives a responsive, zippy ride which is ideal for the city. On a single three hour charge, you can ride up to an impressive 50km (30 miles).
Built with corrosion resistant aluminium, the ebike weighs just 14kg including the battery, making it easy to carry upstairs, onto the train or lift into the boot of the car. The FLIT-16’s unique engineering means that it can be folded in under 10 seconds and then rolled on its own wheels to maximise manoeuvrability. “We have customers that want to take their FLIT-16 on planes, boats and even helicopters - the compact design means that you can pretty much bring it anywhere” says Alex Murray, co-founder at FLIT.
With integrated lights at both the front and rear for visibility at night, plus a custom built suspension system that takes the bumps out of the road, the FLIT-16 ticks all of the boxes for urban commuters.
The ebike is currently available to pre-order for £1,699 (full retail price is £2,499 - that's £800 off!) on Indiegogo InDemand, with free shipping (normally £99).
