Air to the Throne: First Riders Confirmed
UK Number One, Matt Jones, joins World Number One Nicholi Rogatkin, in the line up of riders competing for the 2018 Air to the Throne title
Red Bull and Frames of Mind Star, Matt Jones, is back. After narrowly being pipped to the Air to the Throne title by Nicholi in 2017, Matt returns after a year in which he became an internet sensation, and we can't wait to see how he puts his new tricks down in competition.
The stunning Frames of Mind edit, featured below, might have been the highlight of 2017 for Matt, but he was unlucky at Crankworx Rotorua (injury), Crankworx Innsbruck, Crankworx Les Gets and Red Bull District Ride (suffering blown tyres in each event), before riding home in 9th at Red Bull Joyride. And back in February he came so close to de-throning Nicholi, but lost out by the smallest margin. Is 2018 his year?
Matt's going to be pushed harder than ever in 2018. Two-time Air to the Throne champion Nicholi is also confirmed to return to London, after a stellar year, in which he won 13 events (including Air to the Throne) and only narrowly came up short in his quest for the never-before-claimed Triple Crown.
Whilst the move up to FMB World Tour Gold Status, officially making Air to the Throne the biggest FMB competition ever to take place in the United Kingdom, means more of the world's top 30 will be competing, as precious FMB points are available, as well as a huge €15,000 prize purse.
